Guest Speaker ~ Ken Carlson
We are pleased to have with us today guest speaker, Ken Carlson. His special Fourth of July message, Independence Forever, describes how 13 very loosely connected colonies arrived at their decision to declare independence on July 4, 1776 and identifies some of the most important people from that time. Ken will explain what people in 2008 can learn from the founders’ experiences.
Leadership is a common thread throughout Ken’s personal and professional life. As a life-long student and practitioner of leadership, his study and practice began at the United States Military Academy at West Point where he received his undergraduate degree. Graduating from the Army’s airborne and ranger schools prepared him for command and successful leadership of a company size unit as a Captain in Vietnam.
Following military service, Ken joined the FBI as a special agent and eventually assumed leadership roles as the head of the White Collar Crime Unit and later the Violent Crimes Unit in the Pittsburgh field office. Ken is now retired from the FBI and has combined his years of leadership experience with a Master’s degree in Professional Leadership. He has most recently been an adjunct professor at Geneva College in their Master’s Program in the Department of Leadership Studies. He is currently a consultant to the Federal Government. |

New Series on the Gospel of Luke
Here at New Community Church we believe that the Bible is a book from God; when we open it, we hear a message from God Himself. The writer of the book of Hebrews said that, “The word of God is living and active ...” (Hebrews 4:12). Through the timeless message of the Bible God still speaks into our lives.
This summer our pastors will open the book of Luke during an eight-week series designed to give us the opportunity to hear a personal message from God. When we are exposed to the remarkable figure at the center of Luke’s gospel, we are going to fall more deeply in love with Him. This series continues a summer tradition of going more deeply into a Bible book or author as we did with The Message of Paul last year.
Join us for these eight weeks of The Message of Luke beginning this weekend and continuing through August. If a week of the series is missed, be sure to listen to the message via our website or purchase a CD of the message at the Audio Ministry table. |

Come one, come all to the greatest camp on earth!
Registrations for KidZone begin Sunday. KidZone is a week-long camp being held July 14–18. Children entering Kindergarten through 6th grade, in the fall of 2008, are eligible to participate in the camp.
This year’s theme, Circus Spectacular, will provide a High Flyin’ time for the kids. While at KidZone, the campers will participate in praise and worship, interactive Bible lessons, crafts, games, a carnival, and two fun-filled water days. Most kids who have participated at KidZone in the past will tell you it is the best week of their summer!
Today, pick up a Camper Registration Packet for more information. Applications for students, in 7th through college age who want to serve at KidZone, are also available. Pick up either packet at the special KidZone table or at the Welcome Center.
There are also plenty of opportunities for adults to participate in any part of KidZone week. If you are interested in learning more about the adult volunteer opportunities, please email the KidZone Camp Coordinator, Noriene Arnold at nsarnold@zoominternet.net.

The National Organ Donor Olympics will be held in Pittsburgh from July 11 through 16. In correlation with that time frame, New Community Church will be kicking off a four-month organ donor drive ending on November 9, 2008. This will provide our church with a great opportunity to give back to our community in a meaningful life-giving way.
On July 27, 2008, immediately following the 11 a.m. service there will be a kick-off meeting for this donor drive. A representative from CORE (The Center for Organ Recovery & Education) will be present and two testimonies from people in our own congregation regarding the impact of organ donations on their lives will be given. Lunch will also be provided.
Not only is this a church-wide thrust for organ donors, but also a great opportunity to invite your friends and family to participate in this event. Most of our congregation are already donors, thus allowing us to be a positive influence on others to do the same. |

Pillars that Define Our Church
Experiencing New Life ~ Our mission is to provide teaching and worship marked by God’s power, so people of all ages will come to know and develop a grace-filled relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
Establishing New Community ~ Community is more to us than just our middle name; it is one of the primary reasons we do church the way we do. A few examples of community are the small group model we use from our children’s ministry through our student ministry and into our adult ministry, as well as the way we gather after each service on Sunday morning at our Community Cafe to allow people to connect face-to-face.
Expanding God’s New Creation ~ Our third pillar takes us into the mission of God in the world. God is not just drawing individuals into relationship with Himself; He is on a mission to restore the world to the way it is supposed to be. At New Community Church we believe that to accomplish God’s mission it takes all of us to go out into the world into our areas of influence to reshape the world. We labor together to expand God’s new creation as far away as Thailand and Ghana, West Africa, and as close to home as our offices, neighborhoods and families. |

NCC has a team in place to help meet the needs of those who attend our church as well as others locally. They respond to those who are seriously ill, hospitalized, have an unexpected life crisis or prayer needs. If you are aware of someone in any of these categories, please call the office. All requests will be kept in strictest confidence and will enable the Care Response Team to effectively serve those in need.

Beginning next Sunday, July 13, you will have the opportunity to sponsor an Imani Christian Academy student as they start the new school year. This year your $40 contribution will buy two school uniform shirts and school supplies for one child.
In 2007, Imani, one of NCC’s mission partners, implemented a uniform policy requiring each student to wear the Imani polo-type shirt, khaki pants, black shoes and a black belt. Our goal is to sponsor 200 children. Stop by the special display and choose the number of students you want to sponsor. Your contribution makes a world of difference! |
