Compassion Day Partner Shows Gratitude
You’re Invited!! Pine Valley, one of our local mission partners, invites you to come check out the camp at their Community Day on Sunday, July 12 from 2 - 6 p.m. The new swimming pool will be open along with the 100 foot water slide! Horseback riding, canoeing and rock wall climbing will also be available. They encourage you to bring friends and neighbors to get acquainted with the camp and just enjoy their facilities. Food and drinks will be provided. They are located at 504 Chapel Drive, Ellwood City, 16117, about 10 minutes west of Zelienople. You can also visit them on the web at pinevalleybiblecamp.org.
Because so many people would like to experience Pine Valley while campers are there, they have made a way for you to do just that. You and your family, neighbors, friends, small group, etc. can serve dinner and/or snack on any Monday or Wednesday evening during the summer. Their kitchen staff will still provide and cook the food, all you have to do is serve it! (If you would like to provide the snack, you are more than welcome!) You are then invited to stay for the evening activity after dinner and/or the campfire after snack. To serve dinner, you need to arrive at 5 p.m. For snack, you need to arrive at 7:15 p.m. Just call the Pine Valley Camp office to sign up at 724-752-1661. |

Mission Partner: Urban Impact ~ Part 1 ~
Ed and Tammy Glover were called to Pittsburgh’s North Side for urban ministry in 1986 at Allegheny Center Alliance Church. As an outreach of that church, they formed Urban Impact in 1995. Wanting to fully restore the lives of the people in the community, they sought to have a bigger impact on its people. Urban Impact focuses on practical aspects of community development while providing a spiritual base for the people of the North Side. Over the past 15 years, UI has impacted thousands of children and youth from the North Side and over 50,000 young people nationally through UI’s various ministries and programs.
Before change occurs in a person’s life, it must occur in a person’s heart. At Urban Impact they work to make that happen through holistic community outreach to meet the needs of the whole person. They can meet academic, physical, emotional and social needs, but to neglect spiritual needs is to fall short. When the Word of God reaches the hearts of troubled young people, real change begins. Broken spirits are restored, making way for hope, which can inspire an entire family. When families change, something even bigger happens: neighborhoods change. With God’s help in building positive relationships with youth on Pittsburgh’s North Side and with His guidance in mending the wounds of needy children, UI works to change Pittsburgh one person, one family, and one block at a time. In part 2 we will share some of the specific programs of Urban Impact. If you would like to help us raise the $8000 needed to specifically support the Glovers and Urban Impact, you may put Urban Impact on your check memo and place it in the offering. |

Focus on Missions: Dr. Mensah ~ The Recap
Dr. Mensah began her missionary call as a nun and then at age 40 heard God calling her to become a medical doctor. She is currently the physician and lead missionary at the Banda Health Clinic in Banda Ahendkro, Ghana. Working in the 15 room health clinic on a 24/7 basis, she also serves as the only health care provider in neighboring villages caring for over 40,000 of God’s children. With our help, her efforts, accomplishments, initiatives and plans are now serving as a model for others in the Pioneers organization. NCC was specifically cited as having a major impact on her success through the support we have given over the years.
In October of 2007, NCC had a Medical/Dental Mission trip to Ghana in support of Dr. Mensah and the people who live in the very remote area where she works and lives. The team brought with them much needed medical supplies along with medical talent and experience. They certainly had a life changing experience as they answered God’s call to serve. We hope you will continue to support our brothers and sisters in Ghana and especially Dr. Mensah with your prayers. If you would like to help us raise the $18,000 needed to support Dr. Mensah’s projects, you may put Pioneers Africa-Ghana on your check memo and place it in the offering. We all serve an awesome God capable of using us in the midst of our insufficiency to make His plan a reality. |

Pillars that Define Our Church
Experiencing New Life ~ Our mission is to provide teaching and worship marked by God’s power, so people of all ages will come to know and develop a grace-filled relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
Establishing New Community ~ Community is more to us than just our middle name; it is one of the primary reasons we do church the way we do. A few examples of community are the small group model we use from our children’s ministry through our student ministry and into our adult ministry, as well as the way we gather after each service on Sunday morning at our Community Cafe to allow people to connect face-to-face.
Expanding God’s New Creation ~ Our third pillar takes us into the mission of God in the world. God is not just drawing individuals into relationship with Himself; He is on a mission to restore the world to the way it is supposed to be. At New Community Church we believe that to accomplish God’s mission it takes all of us to go out into the world into our areas of influence to reshape the world. We labor together to expand God’s new creation as far away as Thailand and Ghana, West Africa, and as close to home as our offices, neighborhoods and families. |

Results from Question of the Day
We are growing! Student ministries needs more room. AWANA needs more room. TLC needs more room. Unfortunately, our facility constrains our growth. In order to support the growth, we need to reconsider our present approach to TLC, “something for everyone, all on one night”. Last week our congregation responded with strong support (81% favored) to move AWANA to Wednesday night, leave Student Ministries on Thursday night, and let TLC’s adult small groups meet on either night. This not only allows all 3 ministries to grow, but also allows greater flexibility and options to all who participate. For example, a person could take a class on Wednesday night and/or serve in Student Ministries on Thursday night. Alternatively, a person could take a class on Thursday night and/or serve in AWANA on Wednesday night.
The Question of the Day results are: “Which of the following options do you support?”
81 % A. Move AWANA to Wednesday and let TLC adult small groups meet either night so all 3 ministries continue to grow.
15% B. Leave everything on Thursday night.
4% C. I have another suggestion: ____
Thank you for your input! |

| NCC currently resets the worship center at least once each week, Sundays from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m., in order to prepare for our unique 467 Bridge atmosphere. We also have an occasional need for a setup crew for special events and weddings. Our goal is to establish four setup teams which could rotate by serving one Sunday per month. This is a great serving opportunity for families to come and serve together! If you are willing to help but are not available to serve every month, we can put you on our list to be contacted for special event setups as well. Please contact Vicki Carlson at the church office. |

| It’s simple. Online Giving allows your weekly or monthly contributions to be transferred electronically from your checking or savings account, or your credit card directly into the church account. While away on vacation, you have peace of mind knowing that your offering or pledge has been received and is contributing to the work of the church. This is especially helpful during summer months! One easy to use authorization form can start or change your electronic contribution amount. The authorization form is available by contacting Gitti Hajduk at the office (724-935-0909) or completing it online at our Web site. |

Where is NCC Financially Right Now?
Who would have thought that in this challenging financial season our country is in right now that giving to New Community Church would, as of this past weekend, be only slightly behind last year (0.5% behind year-to-date)? We are thankful to God for the faithfulness of His people.
Having said that, with the ministry expansions we have put into place for this year, right now we are on course to be about $100,000 short of what we projected our needs to be (based on a $1.3 million freewill offering budget). This is too great a shortfall and we must take further actions soon to reverse this trend by reducing our expenses. It is our hope that we will not have to impact our staff as we move in this direction.
So we are grateful but we are also prayerful. Would you join us in praying that God would continue to provide and guide our leadership and our congregation? Ask God to speak to His people about how we can be generous to a God who has been so faithful and generous with us! May God move us all toward obedience in the way we handle the resources He has entrusted to us. For more information on our church finances, contact Curtis Songer or Gitti Hajduk in the office. We publish our financial status every week on the back page of this Weekly Update under “Key Statistics for 2009”. |
