  History

In the winter of 1998, seven families gathered with the dream of starting a new church. Over the next seven weeks, the crowd grew as the fledgling church met in the banquet facilities of the Sheraton North in Warrendale and the Chadwick banquet facilities in Wexford. In March of 1998, New Community Church began holding services at Marshall Middle School; and almost seven years later, on December 12, 2004, our prayer of moving into our own facility on a 26-acre plot of land at the corner of Route 910 and Pearce Mill Road in Pine Township became a reality.

From the very start, several things set the gatherings apart.

  • The time spent over coffee after the services took on an importance to the people at New Community. It was something about the chance to go deeper and to connect face to face rather than just come and go.
  • A vast majority of our people connected into small groups, meeting in homes from Wexford to the South Hills. “Community” was more than our middle name – it was who we were.
  • Our teaching and worship was marked by God's power. People would come for their first time and sense something different, something powerful from God. They would come to try it once and would come back and become a part because they were finding something at New Community that was feeding their souls.

Today, we have two services each Sunday. Almost 800 people gather at those services. It is not uncommon for around 500 to stay after the service to connect over coffee at the Community Cafe. Children are growing, begging their parents not to let them miss a Sunday in our Kids’ Kingdom Ministry. Teens are finding direction in the turbulent years of middle and high school in our Student Ministries.

Our future continues to fill us with excitement and hope as we use New Community Church to touch and change lives and trust God for tomorrow.
